All staff are required to have current CPR/AED and First Aid certification. If you don't have a certification, or it is expiring soon, ASN has instructors who can certify you. The following applies to either CPR or First Aid certification by itself, but most staff complete them at the same time. (If yours are out of sync, feel free to contact us about bringing them back together.)
If you already have a certification, look below for details on what we can accept.
Video Series
These are found in GroupApp. CPR is a 5-day microlearning series, and First Aid is a 7-day microlearning series. You will need to complete them before attending an in-person class, so please plan ahead. Once these are completed you have 30 days to attend a class and finish the certification, otherwise you will need to re-take the video portion.
In Person Class
This is the in-person skills demonstration class. Sign up for a class in your area under Events in GroupApp. If you can't find one,
Both CPR and First Aid are covered in the same class, but if you only need one you can choose to sit out the other part. Please inform the instructor in advance.
Certification Card
At the end of the course, you will be asked if you want to receive an official American Heart Association certification card (in electronic format), which will cost $25 (less than the payout you get for attending the class). It can be payroll deducted or paid by cash or check. If you don't request the card, you will sign a form verifying that you were offered a chance to receive it.
Outside Certification
We accept these certifications or licenses for CPR/AED and First Aid:
- American Heart Association
- American Red Cross
- Medic First Aid
- A current Nursing or CNA license
(We often receive certificates which cover CPR but not First Aid. The certificate must specify that First Aid is included in order for us to give you credit for First Aid.)
